This is an introduction to the Employment Development Department of the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency, their founding and the services they offer. This is one of the up and coming parts of the California Labour and Workforce Development Agency, as this department has shown true excellence at their job, one where many skilled people have tried their hand and failed to perform an acceptable job. They are an office of the executive branch of the State of California, and thus hold a level of authority given to few offices or branches of State Government. EDD is one of the most efficient branches, as they are responsible for offering a wide variety and range of services to sheer millions of Californians who come under various employment, disabled, and workforce protection acts and programs of the law. They are California’s largest tax collection agency and handles a range of responsibilities like the collection of payroll taxes, maintaining records of more than 17 million Californian workers. The EED is one of the largest branches of the California State Government, as they employ a massive workforce of over 10,000 employees, who provide excellent and reputed service at over 400 different locations and spots. The Department was created by a 1935 statue, which created a department known as the Department of Employment. After many changes, the now iconic “Employment Development Department” came to be in the year of 1974.
