It was basically established as the Georgia Railway and Power Company and is the largest among all the four companies which are operated by Southern Company. This is an investor owned, tax-paying public utility which serves to people which are more than 2.4 million in number across multiple states. The company employs more than 9000 people and the CEO and president of the company is Paul Bowers. Georgia Power mainly operates the Scherer Power plant in the Monroe country and they have been listed as the 20th most carbon emitting power plant by the Center of Global Development in the year 2007 being the only plant that got listed with the top 25 carbon emitting plant that is located in America. The Georgia Power uses about 115,000 volts transmission lines which are utilized for also carrying power of 230,000 volts and 500,000 volts. They have inter-connections with the Alabama Power in the west, Tennessee Valley authority in the north Florida Power and Light along with Gulf Power and Progress Energy Florida in the south and finally Duke Energy and South Carolina Electric and Gas in the east.
